ISHVARA THROUGH PRATYAHARA*
Faith Yoga is a unique approach to Yoga that is designed to enhance a practitioners balance, inner awareness and empathy. It was developed by Cephus "Primo" Jones in 2007 and originally designed to prepare teaching assistants for working with the blind as they practice Yoga, but is now available to sighted students who wish to enhance and compliment their own personal approach to Yoga. Faith Yoga is a compliment to Vinyasa, Kripalu, Ashtanga or any of the other popular Yoga styles taught today.
Similar to any Vinyasa class, Faith Yoga flows from one pose to the next. What is unique to Faith Yoga is the sequencing and the use of a sleep mask to facilitate an inner awareness of the posture that normally not emphasized in a traditional Yoga class. In a typical Faith Yoga class, we start from the ground and eventually work our way up to standing position and from there we again work our way down to the ground for our finishing sequence.
The sweet spot of Faith Yoga is the unique finishing sequence. As we begin to work our way back down to the ground we put our sleep masks. These are normally sleep masks people use to keep out light when they are trying to sleep, but in Faith yoga they are tools we use to mimic the environment of the blind as they practice yoga. Cutting off the sight will force you balance yourself without visual cues leading to a totally unique Yoga experience!
So try Faith Yoga and deepen your practice. .
